Continued Joy…
Continued Joy… what does that really mean? Joy that continues? Earlier this year I had a friend die of pancreatic cancer. The email updates were a joy to receive and a joy to read as it brought us closer than the 2000 miles that separated us. When my friend neared the end of his time, I painted a picture of lemons and lemonade on a table by a window, and sent him a copy via email. It brought him much joy. Every time I see that picture I think of him. I have sent that picture to others who encountered illness throughout the year, but none suffered the ill fate of my friend with cancer. The painting indicates a bitter sweetness of joy.
As we approach the close of 2007, it gives me pause to question, is there enough joy in your life? Although we may never have enough joy in the world, your own world can experience joy daily. What did you do today to bring joy to another individual? Define what joy is for you and what it means to give joy to others? True joy is a gift. Not something you buy in a store. A gift of yourself that you give to another, unconditionally… with absolutely no exceptions and no expectations. Joy can also be a gift you give yourself. Take time this season to give joy, to yourself, to others and to the world – everyday!
